We were recently asked whether it is better to buy specimens from online dealers or from internet auctions. Our answer was to avoid auction sites at all costs! Online auctions are watched by too many collectors, so there is little chance of getting a bargain. Also, the final price is set by YOU, the buyer, based only on the photo. So you are in effect gambling on the 'apparent' appearance of the specimen - which can be very misleading and risky. Also, several auctions are not run fairly, with sellers bidding up their own specimens. Consequently You are much safer buying from a site where the mineral dealer sets the price, while inspecting the specimen closely, and setting a fair specimen value based on years of experience. You are also much safer because a reputable dealer like us will have a 'no questions asked' returns policy. Finally, the dealer is much more likely to share their expertise and advice with you. All features missing from online auction sites. Caveat emptor!
